My mother, Zareen Khalid (May Allah grant her the highest place in heaven) was an incredible, loving person with a strong sense of social responsibility. A quality she has instilled in me and I hope and pray I can keep it alive and make her proud. Through innumerable examples she has taught me to always think of others and give back to the society we live in. Taking this spirit forward, we are working towards installing a water filtration plant in a deprived village in Bahawalnagar. Access to clean drinking water is a basic, fundamental human right. As per WaterAid, 21.7 million Pakistanis are deprived of clean drinking water; 69 million people do not have a decent toilet and 19,000+ children under 5 die of diarrhoea each year. Clean drinking water improves overall health and well-being; alleviates the burden of healthcare expenses and lost productivity; facilitates better hygiene practices; reduces the incidence of water-borne diseases and empowers people to lead healthier, more prosperous lives. This ensures that there are more children in school, more women in jobs, improved agriculture and sustainable livelihoods.
